Chateau Durfort-Vivens is a storied estate in Margaux, ranked a second growth in the Classification of 1855; it is today one of the many fine estates in the hands of members of the Lurton family, who acquired it in 1961. Gonzague Lurton, who took over in 1992, runs the property; under his stewardship, Durfort Vivens has been modernized with new cellars and new fermentation vats of both cement and wood, and he has taken viticultural practices in the organic/biodynamic direction, with complete certification achieved in 2016. Beginning with the 2009 vintage, Lurton also started aiming for a riper, more concentrated style of wine. The “Les Plantes” wines come from the estate’s youngest vines. This is a juicy, bright, energetic Margaux, with a soft perfume of red summer fruits.
