Alheit Vineyards is a family business started in 2010 by husband and wife team Chris and Suzaan Alheit. They met at Stellenbosch University, fell in love, travelled the world together, got married, then travelled some more. Eventually they settled on Hemelrand farm close to Hermanus, on the southern coast of South Africa, and started their project., quickly becoming one of the most talked about new wineries in South Africa. They are devoted to the historic old vines of the country, a devotion clearly shown in their "Cartology"; mostly Chenin Blanc with a bit of Semillon blended in, the wine is sourced from eight different growing regions and is always, as one critic says, more than the sum of its parts. It is a racy white, medium-bodied, with a backbone of rapierlike acidity wrapped in a honeyed, lightly mouth-coating texture.
