Gaierhof is a family-owned and –run winery in northeastern Italy, in the town of Rovere della Luna, just shy of the border with Austria; it was founded in 1976 by Luigi Togn and it remains with the family today, one of the few family-run wineries in the region. It is also known as “a winery led by women,” as Luigi’s three daughters, Romina, Valentina and Martina now run not only Gaierhof but sister wineries Valdadige, Lechthaler, and the standard-bearer Maso Poli. Pinot Noir has found its Italian home in this region, and the Gaierhof version will show you why: elegant, smooth, and well balanced, it is velvety on the palate with delicate tannins and a lingering finish.
