With the cellar founded in 1761, Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is among the oldest names associated with wine in the Langhe region. The legendary Borgogno Barolos are classics in the history of Italian wine, and the estate has an extensive library collection. The Borgogno family cared for the estate for 247 years until 2008 when they sold it to the Farinetti family, who promised to preserve and continue their legacy. Today, Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is run by budding oenologist Andrea Farinetti, flanked by Beppe Caviola. The estate is planted primarily to Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera with small amounts of Riesling and Freisa. This is their Barolo Chinato, an aromatized wine made from a base of Barolo, to which bark, herbs and spices are added, usually consumed as an after-dinner drink, either as a dessert wine or a digestif. The Borgogno version shows the typical hints of leather on the nose while on the palate it is smooth, round, and with a long finish.
