Renato Cigliuti represents the fourth generation in his family to grow grapes in the Langhe region of Piedmont. Today the fifth generation, daughters Claudia and Silvia, is in charge, with Renato (just turned 80) and his wife Dina supervising. Production here has always been small (in fact they are known as one of the great small producers of Barbaresco), with some 22 acres in two different locations planted to Barbera and Nebbiolo and an annual production of about 30,000 bottles. This Nebbiolo comes from their Bricco di Neive plantings and is vinified in much the same fashion as their Barbaresco, fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and then aged for five months, partially in steel and partially in Slavonian oak. Combining power and elegance, it has aromas and flavors of cherries, wild strawberries, fennel, flowers, and spice.
