The Vallana estate is situated in the village of Maggiora in the Alto Piemonte, more than a hundred miles north of Barolo; the Vallana family name has been synonymous with great wine from as early as the 18th century. Their wines are known for their intensity and show great character and tradition. The estate as we know it today was formed in 1937 by Bernardo Vallana; it is today run by his daughter Giuseppina Vallana, together with her son Francis and her daughter Marina and Miriam. This is their entry-level offering, 100% Spanna (the local name for Nebbiolo) from the Colline Novaresi DOC, a region characterized by old vines and high altitudes. It shows the classic violet and rose bouquet of Nebbiolo, and is elegantly structured for a long, graceful evolution in the bottle.
