Domaine Jessiaume sits right at the entrance to the town of Santenay. Built in 1850, it comprises more than 37 acres, with large plots and important holdings in four different communes. The Jessiaumes are in fact the biggest landowners in Santenay. After five generations, the estate is still in the hands of the Jessiaume family, today being run by brothers Marc and Pascal. This bottling blends grapes from domaine-owned parcels in Combottes and Combe Dessous with purchased grapes that are completely destemmed and given a cold soak before fermentation on native yeasts and ageing in cask (25% new). The result is a Burgundy with forward aromas of plummy fruit touched with hints of smoke, leather, and earth and a texture that strikes an impressive balance between the firm-ish tannins and fresh acidity.
