The family-run company of Maison Louis Latour is one of the most highly-respected négociant-éléveurs in Burgundy. Renowned throughout the world for the quality of its red and white wines, the company has built a reputation for tradition and innovation. Each year they make around 150 different wines, with a production of 8.5 million bottles. Here quantity does not obviate quality, however, their Pinot Noir being an outstanding example. The "Pierres Dorees" is Latour's newest venture, with grapes coming not from Burgundy itself but from a region about 25 miles northwest of Lyon, where the traditional red grape is Gamay. The soils here are very similar to those of Burgundy, and this Pinot shows the Latours made a smart decision by plantig here. The wine is elegant and rich, with a typically Burgundian complexity.
