Weingut Willi Schaefer, which dates back to 1121, is universally considered one of the greatest producers in all of Germany, and a benchmark for the Mosel. A storied family winery in Graach, it has been run since 2015 by Christoph Schaefer and his wife Andrea. Historically, the Graach vineyards have been rated the highest in the Mosel, the two premier vineyard sites being Himmelreich and Domprobst, with Domprobst producing wines that are generally more minerally, smokier, shadowy, and taking longer to emerge. This is a late-harvest Riesling from the #10 vineyard in the Domprobst site; elegant, transparent, and full of character, this is Riesling at its finest.
