The Vallana estate is situated in the village of Maggiora in the Alto Piemonte, more than a hundred miles north of Barolo; the Vallana family name has been synonymous with great wine from as early as the 18th century. Their wines are known for their intensity and show great character and tradition. The estate as we know it today was formed in 1937 by Bernardo Vallana; it is today run by his daughter Giuseppina Vallana, together with her son Francis and her daughters Marina and Miriam. The Campi Raudii, named for an important Roman battle that took place near the property, is mostly Nebbiolo, with small amounts of Uva Rara and Vespolino blended in; done entirely in cement tanks, it is fresh, fruity, very elegant and smooth on the palate. Roughly 1,000 cases produced annually.
