For 700 years the Frescobaldi family has combined tradition, experience and innovation with creativity and the pursuit of excellence. The family has always looked to develop and celebrate the diversity of Tuscany’s terroir, being proud owners of some of the greatest vineyards in this region. They always seek to maintain the identity and autonomy of each property. The Ornellaia estate was funded in 1981 by Marchese Ludovico Antinori. In 1999 Robert Mondavi acquired a minority share, which he increased to full control three years later, transferring half of it to the Frescobaldis. In 2005, following the sale of the Robert Mondavi Corporation, the Frescobaldis acquired the remaining 50%. Le Volte was first produced with the 1991 vintage. Being the third wine of Ornellaia, it reflects the philosophy and savoir-faire of the domain and combine the softness of Merlot, the structure and depth of Cabernet Sauvignon and the vivacity of Sangiovese. Aged for 10 months partly in oak barrels used for Ornellaia and partly in cement tanks, this Super Tuscan offers the perfect balance between tannic structure and expression of fresh fruit.
