Located in the hills of Maremma, Tuscany, between Montalcino and Monte Amiata, Tenuta Pianirossi was founded a little more than twenty years ago by Stefano Sincini, who left a high-powered career as an executive in the fashion industry to enter tine world of wine in Tuscany. Sincini had fallen in love with the Maremma when he was a student in Siena and was set on creating something unique in the region as a way of preserving its beauty. Sincini found his special place in 1999 and quickly assembled a team of highly-skilled wine experts and artisans, including faned oenologist Carlo Ferrini, to help him achieve his dream. Today Pianirossi is a 75-acre estate with 35 acres of vineyards, all of which are farmed by hand following organic practices. The winery produces a white (Vermentino), a rosé, and four reds, including this “Sidus,” a 60/40 blend of Sangiovese and Montepulciano. This a “Super Tuscan” at a non-ST price point. With intensely fruity notes of cherries and berries on the nose, it is juicy and succulent, rich and round, with soft tannins and notable acidity.
