At nearly 30 acres, Domaine Taupenot-Merme is a rather large estate by Burgundian standards. The roots of the family estate go back to the 1760s, and today’s superb vineyard holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-St. Denis and Chambolle Musigny were united by the marriage of two winemaking families three generations ago. The estate is now in the hands of Romain Taupenot and his sister Virginie, the seventh generation to continue the family tradition. This is a red Burgundy from a premier cru vineyard that balances power and complexity; on the nose it shows complex notes of cherry, black currant, truffles and spices, and there is an explosion of spices and licorice on the palate with a lively tannic structure and a long finish.
