Rodney Strong is one of Sonoma County's signature wineries; a successful dancer before retiring and turning to his second love, winemaking, Strong established Sonoma County's 13th bonded winery in 1959. The winery was purchased by the Klein family, a fourth-generation California farming family, in 1989. The winery farms 14 estate vineyards and sources grapes from vineyards throughout Sonoma County, focusing on Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill and Sonoma Coast. Rodney Strong Vineyards wines are estate-bottled, Sonoma County wines, including single varietal and single vineyard offerings. The RS Chardonnay traiditionally integrates fruit from some of California's cooler climates with their Sonoma fruit (Hence the "California" designation on the label); the result, partly barrel fermented and partly done in new French oak, is creamy and a touch spicy, with a long, lingering finish.
