Los Bermejos, owned and run by winemaker Ignacio Valdera, is in Lanzarote, the easternmost of the Canary Islands; a region of Spain but geographically and geologically part of Africa, the islands are situated just about 60 miles off the southwest coast of Morocco. The islands are volcanic in origin, and the soil is the black soil of volcanic ash; vines are generally planted at high elevations on terraces carved into steep volcanic hillsides and in myriad microclimates. This white is 100% Malvasia Volcanico, a grape that is indigenous to the islands; crisp and bright, the wine positively explodes with citrus and mineral flavors.
