Lioco is the result of a years-long conversation between Matt Licklider (a seasoned wine import specialist) and Kevin O'Connor (wine director at Michelin Two-Star Spago, Beverly Hills) about whether California could produce a true "wine of origin," one that favored nuance over sheer power. That was in 2005, and the Lioco enterprise is still going strong, now entirely owned and operated by the winemaking duo of Matt and Sara Licklider, who source all their fruit from exceptional vineyards spanning 200 miles and three counties (Santa Cruz, Sonoma, and Mendocino). This 2020 Mendocino Pinot has won praise for its exceptional freshness and purity. Sourced from two different Mendocino AVAs, Anderson Valley and Redwood Valley, that were not touched by the wildfires of that year, the wine has inland fruit density paired with classic coastal intensity.
