Scar of the Sea winery was founded in 2012 in San Luis Obispo by the husband-and-wife team of Mikey and Gina Giugni with co-owner Michael Brughelli. Their focus is on working with farmers who are custodians of the land and on making wine with as little intervention as possible. This group includes Mike Sinor, who owns the Bassi vineyard and farms it with colleagues Ben Taylor and Salvador Mendoza, using organic practices. The vineyard is located a little more than a mile from the Pacific, tucked into the hillsides of Avila Valley. This is a juicy, lifted Pinot with seductive aromas of cranberry, blackberry, and wild strawberry.
