Angelo Fongoli is the fourth generation making wine at the Fongoli family estate in Montefalco, in Umbria. The estate comprises nearly 100 acres, a mix of vineyards, forest, and olive groves, with the fifty acres of vineyards planted entirely to the typical grapes of the region, Trebbiano Spoletino, Grechetto, Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Sagrantino, the oldest of which are more than forty years old. The vines have been certified organic by Ecocert since 2013, and Angelo and his wife Lutezia now work entirely in biodynamic techniques. His “Rossofongoli” is a 60/40 blend of Sangiovese and Montepulciano showing bright berries, an herbal edginess, and a touch of smoke. Done entirely in stainless steel, it is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulfites.
