The Avril family, with an extensive history in the region, founded Domaine Juliette Avril in 1927; it took ten years, however, before wines were produced and bottled at the estate. The estate remains family-owned and –run, with Marie Lucile Brun having taken over from her mother, Juliette Avril, in 1988. The domaine comprises 75 acres of vineyard land, most of that located in Chateauneuf-du-Pape with small holdings in the Ventoux and the Vaucluse. Their Chateauneuf is very much Grenache-driven, with small amount of Syrah and Mourvedre blended in, the percentages depending on the vintage. It is released on the early side, after spending less than a year in used tanks and barrels. This is a medium-bodied, soft-textured, fruit-forward wine with sweet red fruit and a touch of garrigue.
