Jean-Pierre Boisson, former long-serving mayor of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, runs Domaine Père Caboche with his children Emily and Nicolas. Members of the Boisson family have been both winemakers and blacksmiths for generations, dating back at least to 1772. Not surprisingly, the domaine is known primarily for its Chateauneuf, made from their very old vines, but their Cotes du Rhone is equally deserving of our attention. A 60/25/15 blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, it has an intense nose of red fruit jam and spices and is smooth on the palate with a tight texture, silky tannins, and an elegant finish.
