Jean-Baptiste (first vintage 2005) and Benoît Bachelet (first vintage 2000) are now the primary winemakers at the family domaine, which has been making wine since the early 17th century. The domaine is based in the village of Gamay, a hamlet of Saint-Aubin, and they have 25 acres, producing half red and half white. Almost half of the vineyards are in Chassagne-Montrachet, another 40% of the vineyards are in Saint-Aubin, and the remaining 13% of their holdings are in Puligny-Montrachet. All of the vineyards are estate-owned and have been farmed biodynamically since 2012. This is their basic Chassagne bottling, which is made from 50-year-old vines in the lieu-dit Les Encégnières, which is shared by both Chassagne and Puligny. Though it is a large vineyard, only a tiny piece of Les Encégnières extends into Chassagne, just below the famous Bâtard-Montrachet. This prime source allows the Bachelets to make an exceptional village bottling of uncommon richness. This is a beautifully textured Chardonnay with a saline palate and a long finish.
