Maison Foucher is a third-generation family enterprise founded in the Loire Valley in 1921 by the Lubrun-Foucher family. It operates effectively as a “petit negociant,” an entity that buys grapes, juice, or either partially or fully fermented wine from others and sells the wine under his or her own name. Their offerings are selected by Jean Mounard, a partner in the firm and a former “Fine + Rare” wine merchant from Paris whose palate was formed by years of tasting and selling such wines as DRC, Mouton-Rothchild and Leflaive. Mounard’s focus here is on the production of small batch wines from selected plots in Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé and Saumur-Champigny in order to provide classic expressions of Loire Valley appellations at exceptional values. Their sparkling wine is a 50/25/25 blend of Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; lean and with a fresh minerality, it shows green apple, pear, and white nectarine fruit on a medium body.
