Chateau Potensac is owned by the Delon family, who also own Leoville Las Cases in St. Julien and Chateau Nenin in Pomerol. The grandfather of Jean Hubert Delon obtained the estate through marriage, when he married into the Liquard family, and from that time on, Chateau Potensac has been passed down from father to son. This large vineyard (210 acres) was at one time planted heavily to Cabernet, but the mix is now 46% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 2% Carmenere, and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine is produced by the Leoville Lascasses team in the northern Medoc, near Sociando Mallet. This 2010 has been called a sleeper of the vintage. Full-bodied and structured, this is a classic “beefy” style of Bordeaux, powerful and tannic, with a long bitter chocolate and cassis finish.
