Visitors to the region are often amazed to find a traditional Tudor mansion set in the middle of the Margaux appellation. But when the well-known Scottish animal painter John Lewis Brown bought the estate in the early 1800s that was what he wanted, and got. As with many properties in the region, the estate over the decades passed through several hands and is now (since 2019) under the ownership of Tristan Le Lous of the Urgo Group pharmaceutical company, who have already greatly improved and added to the vineyards. This is a large estate, with 150 acres under vine, the main vineyard being planted to a 65/30/5 mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. This vintage is a 75/25 blend of Cab and Merlot; medium- to full-bodied, it has blackberries and tobacco on the nose and crisp cassis with an herbal streak on the palate.
