Dating from the middle of the 18th Century, this chateau is one of the few Bordeaux chateaux not located in their vineyards but rather is located close to the Gironde river. The estate remained with the Ducasse family until 1971. Since 2004 it has been in the hands of CA Grands Crus, owners Chateau Meyney in St. Estephe, who have significantly renovated and modernized the cellars. The vineyards, located in the northern part of Pauillac, are planted to a mix of Cabernet and Merlot, with a small amount of Petit Verdot, and the vines are, on average, close to 30 years in age. They began a slow transition to organic farming in 2014, a transition that will be complete in 2025. This 2020 has been widely heralded as one of the best vintages the chateau has ever produced. Full-bodied and fleshy, the wine is packed with multiple layers of fruit, cedar, and cigar box; it is rich, supple, long and fresh, with great depth of flavor and character.
