Although the property dates from the 1700s, modern history here begins only in 1920, when Etienne Martimeau bought the land and planted vineyards, calling the estate Chateau La Fleur d”Aiguilhe. Noted wine consultant Stephan von Neipperg acquired the property in 1989, renamed it Chateau d”Aiguilhe, and quickly set about the process of renovation and renewal, it being then severely in need of those efforts. He replanted the vineyards and created a new circular-shaped winery with rebuilt and modernized winemaking facilities. This historic property is now considered one of the finest and most beautiful vineyards in the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux region. Ths large (225-acre) vineyard iis planted to an 80/20 mix of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with most of the plantings dating from the time of von Neipperg’s acquisition of the property. Aged half in new oak and half in mature barrels, this 2010 is a supple, ripe, and spicy wine, round in texture and filled with ripe black and red fruit.
