Duhart-Milon has a long and rather complicated history, including having changed hands five times in one 25-year stretch in the 1930s. This Left Bank property was in fact in a rather sorry state until 1962, when the Rothschild family acquired it: the entire vineyard needed to be replanted and the cellar rebuilt. One interesting fact: there is no chateau at Chateau Duhart-Milon, only cellars, vatting rooms, and barrel-ageing cellars. All of the Rothschild input eventually paid off: by 2008, the wine of Duhart Milon increased in quality, stature, and price. The vineyards here re planted to Cabernet and Merlot in a roughly two to one ratio, and this makes Duhart-Milon one of the few 1855 Classified Growths with only two varieties planted in their vineyards. New cellars and vat rooms were finished in time for this 2020 vintage, allowing the estate to vinify on a parcel-by-parcel selection for the first time, and the results show clearly here. This is a top vintage for the estate, vibrant, soft, and energetic with an air of elegance, refinement, and silky textures.
