Chateau Aimée is a small, quality-driven estate, a far cry from the co-ops and bulk producers that make most of the wines in Bas-Medoc. Owned by Phillippe Reich, Aimée is a vineyard of only some eight acres, on the classic Pyrenean gravels of the Médoc, with vines that average around thirty years old. The wine is a 60/40 blend of Merlot and Cabernet; juicy, fragrant, and well structured, it shows fresh black fruits and bell pepper on the nose, while on the palate there are minerals, plums, and blackberries. Earthy and full-bodied, it is a suitable companion for a wide range of dishes.
