Through most of its early history, Pontet Canet was the property of the Cruse family, well-known Bordeaux negociants. In 1975 they sold to another negociant family, the Tesserons, and it is under the stewardship of Alfred Tesseron that the chateau has gone from being modestly respected to enjoying great success. Today, Chateau Pontet Canet produces what many people call the most popular and in-demand Bordeaux wine of the appellation, a powerful, concentrated, balanced, and tannic wine but one that is greatly charming as well. Since Alfred Tesseron began managing Chateau Pontet Canet, not only did he move to sustainable farming techniques, he also began to tend the vineyard and vinify the wines on a parcel by parcel basis. The goal of Alfred Tesseron and Pontet Canet is for as little intervention as possible. With that in mind Pontet Canet eventually shifted to biodynamic farming, a process Tesseron began to introduce in 2004. This 2011 is a rich, exuberant yet elegant Pauillac with pure fruit flavors and dusty tannins that are integrated seamlessly.
