Bruno Giacosa died in January of 2018; he was considered not only one of Piedmont’s leading lights for several decades but one of Italy’s greatest wine producers of all time. Giacosa had been in ill health for some time, and so his two daughters, Bruna and Marina, were already positioned to continue their father’s practices and commitments. This single-vineyard Barbera, made by winemaker Dante Scaglione, is definitely a cut above . . . the expected bright cherry fruit, of course, but with an unexpected richness and depth.
