Tom Beckmen and his winemaker son Steve acquired the former Houtz Winery and its 23-acre Los Olivos vineyard in 1994. Two years later they bought a 365-acre ranch higher up in the valley which became the Purisima Mountain Vineyard, now home to 200 acres of Rhone varietal grapes and the source for the grapes in this wine. Cuvee Le Bec is in fact Steve Beckmen’s take on a California version of a Cotes-du-Rhone; a blend of Syrah, Grenche, Mourvedre and Counoise, the wine jumps from the glass with fresh and snappy aromas and flavors of ripe red fruits, and notes of licorice and spice.
