Founded by Gil Family Estates in 2001, El Nido is located in the highlands of Jumilla, about six miles from the town of that name, in southeastern Spain. The old vines here, a mix of Monastrell, Cabernet and Syrah, are rooted in limestone and stony soils at a fairly high altitude, and the illustrious Australian winemaker Chris Ringland is working with the Gil family here. “Cliio” is a 70/30 blend of Monastrell and Cabernet; elegant and full-bodied, it is ripe and heady, with 16% alcohol and generous oak. The seductive palate is filled with ripe red fruits and ends in a lengthy finish.
