Escudo Rojo is the Spanish translation of “Rote Schild,” the German for “red shield,” the historical emblem of the Rothschild family. Escudo Rojo is one of three lines produced by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in Chile, founded in 1997 in Maipo by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Baron Philippe’s daughter. The Escudo Rojo range includes five varietal wines, including this Syrah. A fresh and medium- to full-bodied version of the grape, the wine has aromas and flavors of dark berries and baking spices with hints of black tea, with light tannins and a juicy finish.
