Brad and Kathleen McElroy started what became Ayres Winery in 200, purchasing 38 qcres near Newburg, Oregon, with the help oof Kathleen’s parents. Their first harvest, and first commercial vintage, was in 2003 and, after picking up some invaluable experience as Chef du Cave at Domaine Drouhin, Brad took on the duries of winemaker in 2006. The focus from the start here has been on Pinot Noir, but the winery also produces some Gamay and Pinot Blanc. A smooth, fruity expression of Willamette Pinot Noir, this wine offers layered aromas of dark berries and vanilla with notes of pepper and spice. Juicy but elegant in the mouth, it has concentrated flavors of black cherry and raspberry that unfold on the palate complemented by sweet oak and spice before yielding to a long, apple-spice finish. Though structured for additional aging, this wine is ready to drink now.
