Ron Abuelo traces its history back to the Republic of Panama’s first sugar mill, which opened in 1908. The company began producing rum from its sugar cane juice in 1936. They are notable for being one of the very few distilleries that grow their own sugar cane. The twelve-year-old is is the oldest rum bottled by the company. Distilled from fermented molasses and aged 12 years in a combination of whisky and bourbon barrels, it shows vanilla, toffee, and baked fruit in the body, leading to a smooth smoky finish.
