Rhum Saint James dates from 1765, when the first rum was distilled at Habitation Trou Vaillant on the island of Martinique and exported for sale in North America. Cointreau acquired the distillery in 1973 and, in 1986, along with other distilleries on the island, Saint James was granted AOC (protected designation of origin) status by the French government. Aged for at least eighteen months, the Royal Ambre iis round and elegant, with floral notes combined with hints of wood and spice typical of the ageing process.
