Located in the Langhe region of Piedmont, Distilleria Montanaro was founded in 1885 by Francesco Truffoni, who was one of the first to make a grappa from the Nebbiolo grape. In 1922 the estate passed into the hands of Mario Montanaro and his wife Angela Trussoni. Today the family still makes a wide range of products based on the native grape varieties of Piedmont. Their “6 p.m.” was developed specifically to be sipped before dinner (hence the name) to open the palate. Based on a secret recipe created by the company’s Master Distiller, it has a strong rhubarb character, with additional flavor notes of radish, apple, cinnamon and cherry. Think of it as an interesting alternative to Aperol or Campari.
