La Gritona Reposado is a 100% blue agave tequila distilled by Melly Cardenas at her small distillery in the Valle de Guadalupe in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The mature agave grown in the red soil of the Jalisco highlands has been cultivated at the height of its sugar production, and is put into ovens within 24 hours of being cut; it is twice distilled and rested in reused American whiskey barrels for eight months before filtering and bottling. It is presented in a distinctive bottle that is hand-blown from Mexican Coke bottles. This is a delicate and refined reposado, not overly sweet or barrel-spiced; smooth and round on the palate, it shows bright and refreshing notes of bell pepper, freshly cut grass, and toasted almonds.
