The Ischia Sapori distillery is located on the island of Ischia, off the coast of Naples, near Capri; it is often called the green island for its lush mountainous landscape. Here the Savastano family has established itself as the island’s first and only producer of liqueurs that encapsulate the flavors, colors, and aromas of the island’s bounty. Ingredients for all of the distillery’s products come from a local estate called Villa Spadara, a 17-acre estate devoted to citrus orchards, vineyards, olive trees, and vegetable gardens. Rucolino, their signature amaro based on a centuries-old recipe, is made from arugula, citrus, and a variety of herbs, roots and spices; inky-dark, it has a slightly viscous palate that balances sweet, bitter, and spicy notes, showing hints of espresso and bitter chocolate.
