Flor de Cana was founded in 1890 by Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa, a young adventurer from Genoa. He picked the perfect setting for his distillery, at the base of the San Cristobal volcano, the tallest and most active volcano in Nicaragua. The land, the water, and the hot volcanic climate all proved to be instrumental in forging the rum’s smooth flavor and unique character. Today Flor de Cana remains a family business, in the same hands now for five generations. This 12-year-old is a sugar-free ultra-premium rum, naturally aged, without any artificial ingredients. It is rich and sweet, though less sweet than most Caribbean rums, with warm woody notes and a caramel aftertaste.
