Today considered one of the masters of traditional Italian liqueurs, Antica Erboristeria Cappelletti was established in 1909 in a shop in Trento, in Italy’s Alto Adige. The business, subsequently relocated to the town of Aldeno, remains in the family, run by Luigi and Maddallena Ceppelletti, the grandchildren of the founder’s nephew. This Alta Verde is rare among aamari for its pale green color. Quite bitter on the palate, it is based on assenzio, a variety of wormwood, combined with alpine herbs, citrus, and spices. Best enjoyed with citrus and tonic or soda, or just alone over ice with a big squeeze of lemon.
