The Tornesi family has owned their estate, known as Le Benducce, since 1750, long before Brunello di Montalcino became known as a wine, before Italy became a unified nation. The estate has always produced wine. In 1967 Gino Tornesi registered his vines as Brunello becoming one of the first members of the Consorzio as a producer, but not a bottler. His son Maurizio started the production and business side in 1993 with his first Rosso di Montalcino and his first Brunello di Montalcino. The winery is still family- operated, with Maurizio Tornesi continuing at the helm of both viticulture and winemaking today. This is a rugged style of traditional Tuscan winemaking, with dark cherry, oak, and coffee on the nose, rich dark fruit flavors, and an earthy finish.
