The Thymiopoulos vineyards are situated on Trilofos, the southern tip of the appellation of Naoussa, in the northern part of Greece; the Thymiopoulos family has been growing vines here for several generations but Sergios Thymiopoulos was the first one to get involved commercially by selling grapes to local wineries and then, once his son Apostolos graduated from oenology school, began making wine in 2003. Xinomavro is the only grape planted, and this bottling is made from the estate's younger vines; it captures the essential character of the varietal in that it shows some of the fresh red-fruit character of Pinot Noir, the tannic structure of Nebbiolo, and the seductive fragrance of both.
