Semeli was founded in 1979 in Nemea by George Kokotos, a civil engineer turned dedicated, passionate winemaker, and his wife Anne. Kokotos was one of the first wave of Greek wine producers to concentrate on producing limited quantities of fine wine. The company owns an estate in northern Attica in the foothills of Mount Penteli. It was in this area that, according to Greek mythology, Dionysos, the god of wine, first taught man the cultivation of the vine and introduced the culture of wine to the Greeks. In honor of this association the first wines were given the name of "Semeli," Dionysos’ mother. The Mountain Sun White is a blend of Moschofilero and Sauvignon Blanc; the grapes are grown in high-altitude limestone and clay vineyards in the mountains of Aigialeia and Mantinia, where they ripen slowly and reach perfect maturation, fully developing the distinctive flavors and aromas of both varieties. The wine is intense and ripe on the nose with distinctive aromas of lemon, melon and rose petals, dry on the palate, well balanced with crisp acidity and full of minerality.
