The Selvagrossa winery is located in the foothills outside of Pesaro in the Adriatic region of the Marche. Brothers Alberto and Alessandro Taddei inherited the estate from their grandparents. While Alessandro tends to the vineyards, Alberto is the winemaker, having had a highly successful career in the States as a sommelier: he worked first at Enoteca Pinchiorri for eight years and then as wine director of Falai Ristorante on New York’s lower East Side. Their “Muschen” (the name of a fruit fly in the local dialect, and also Alberto’s nickname) is an unoaked blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, all fermented separately and blended after fermentation; a mid-weight fresh red that blends delicious fruit flavors, it is a great choice for a “house red.”
