A veteran of several noted wineries, including DeLoach, Ridge, and Copain, Mike Lucia started Rootdown Cellars in 2014; at the start his focus was on producing rose, but he has since expanded considerably, with a special interest in recent years in Jura-inspired wines. His “Es Okay” line (the name reflects Mike’s firm belief wine made from serious fruit doesn’t have to be taken seriously) offers wines that are “minimally sulfured and maximally fresh,” all of which are perfectly exemplified by this white. A highly unusual blend based on Cortese (80%) with small amounts of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and skin-fermented Pinot Gris blended in, this is a medium-bodied white with good texture, intriguing aromatics, and zingy acidity.
