Veteran winemaker Carol Shelton spent 19 years as winemaker at Windsor before starting her own label in 2000. With her husband and business partner Mitch Mackenzie, Carol has sought out and worked with exceptional vineyards throughout the state. Based out of an industrial park in the city of Santa Rosa, Carol continues to meticulously hand-craft her wines with a combination of experience, creativity, and passion. Shelton largely made her reputation on her Zinfandels, so it is interesting to see her branching out over the last decade or so, in new directions. Her Coquille Blanc is a classic southern Rhone white, a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Marsanne which she originally created in 2008 to celebrate the winery’s 10th anniversary in 2010 (joined in 2018 by a red Rhone blend, Coquille Rouge). The white, made from Paso Robles grapes, is a complex, multi-dimensional wine with enticing aromas of pears, almonds and honeysuckle, creamy yet crisply dry on the palate.
