Masterwines was started in France in 1990 by Mel and Janie Master; its main business then was sourcing great value wines from the Languedoc. Today the company produces wines in Italy, France, California, Washington, and Oregon and is a partnership with Winesellers, a national importing firm based in Chicago. Mont Gravet is a line of wines they created to feature lesser-known varietals from top vineyards and artisanal winemakers in Gascony and the Languedoc. This white, for example, features Colombard from vineyards located near the city of Toulouse in the southwest of France. Colombard is known as being one of the grapes from which Armagnac as made, but here it presents itself as a crisp, refreshing white with green herbs, stony minerals, and yellow fruits.
