Some 200 years ago a certain Monsieur Amiel sat down to play cards with a few other well-placed individuals; when he left the table he was richer by one rather large (350 acres) piece of property, which he had won from the Archbishop of Perpignan. Amiel was persuaded to plant the land to Grenache vines but lost the property to a local banker before he could enjoy the results. Today owner and winemaker Olivier Decelle since 2000 has made it his personal mission to make over this legendary estate, with a renewed focus on dry wines (red and white) in addition to the estate’s historic fortified wines. Mas Amiel is also now completely dedicated to organic agriculture. This Vertigo Blanc is almost entirely Grenache Blanc, with small amounts of Maccabeu, Marsanne, and Roussanne blended in. Fresh and crisp, it has aromas of white peach and melon and an elegant palate enlivened by bright acidity and stony minerality.
