Lieu Dit Winery was founded in Santa Barbara, California in 2011 by Justin Willett and Eric Railsback; the two shared a passion for the indigenous grapes of the Loire Valley and a belief that their home county of Santa Barbara was particularly suited for their favorite French region’s grapes and the production of pure, low intervention wines. Subsequently Railsback built a successful career as a sommelier and restaranteur while Willett has not only moved Lieu Dit forward but also founded Tyler Winery and is now consulting winemaker for Wenzler Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills. Willett’s Sauvignon Blanc is very much in the Loire Valley style, showing elegant restraint and a soft texture, quite reminiscent, in fact, of the minerality and precision of a fine Sancerre.
